Summer of Love Beauty

 We’re in the middle of summer and Fashion Reverie is crazy about looks inspired by the 1960’s.  A little free love nostalgia is just what you need to achieve inner peace and fun loving hair.  The best part of this beauty routine is the complete simplicity.  The idea is to look naturally pretty, so keep it light and sheer, and let the real you shine through!

Makeup artist Lisa Eldridge suggests faking a rosy glow.  “Cheat making yourself look instantly fresh and more alive by using a multi-purpose lip and cheek tint, that’ll emphasize a dewy outdoorsy glow and can be easily topped up throughout the day if needed” explains Eldridge.  She recommends Bobbi Brown’s Pot Rouge, as well as, Chanel and Bourjois Creme Blush because  “… [they] can be slotted into pockets, are easy to apply and come with a built in mirror.”

Another great way to really enhance your skin is with an illuminator.  Nars’ Hot Sand Illuminator really enhances your look, it is the perfect highlighter with just a touch shimmer.  The best part is it’s so sheer you’ll forget you’re wearing it!

On your eyes try a vibrant color with a little luster such as CK One’s powder eyeshadow in Wipe Out (the perfect summer green with a touch of grown up sparkle) or Nars’ Dual-Intensity Eyeshadow in Himalia, the absolute most perfect topaz color, which works amazingly  when applied both dry (for a sheer finish) or wet (for added impact).  Heading away for the weekend and don’t want to pack your entire makeup kit?  tarte’s Rainforest After Dark is everything you could need in one handy little compact.  With six colored eyeshadows in nudes, plums and golds, a blush, bronzer, and highlighter tarte really hit it out of the park and is certainly a must to achieve a Summer of Love inspired look.  Ensure your lips are well hydrated with a great lip balm.  L’Oreal Paris’ Balm Pop in Bold Blush is such a sweet pink, perfect for those hot summer days.

Keep the hair soft and natural. (Who wants to plug in a hair straightener or curling iron when it’s hot out anyway?Try pretty waves or a chunky fat braid.  GHD recommends a Dip-dye faux fishtail. All you need is a clip-in extension such as Love Hair Extensions clip-in extensions and some colored chalk.  Start by tying your hair into a low side ponytail and wrap the extension around it.  Then split the hair (both real and fake) into two sections, crossover and twist.  Repeat all the way down the hair to create the braid.  Next pull out sections to add a little texture to your hair and give it that great un-done look we’re all after this season.  Finish the look by coloring the ends with chalk for a non-permanent hint of ombre.

Don’t forget to add some final touches, such as floral hair accessories (can you say flower crown?) and a little sparkle!
