With all the hype around this inaugural season of New York Fashion Week: Men’s a lot of menswear designers struggled to get collections ready in time. The CFDA only officially announced this inaugural season in mid-February which may have caused put some menswear designers in a panic; particularly those that do not show in Europe during the third week of June. This was not the case for the household brand, Nautica.

Instead of showing a full spring/summer 2016 collection, the iconic brand chose to only present their spring 2016 swimwear. Since Nautica hardly ever shows in Europe, by only presenting their swimwear they were able to be a part of New York Fashion Week: Men’s without rushing to throw some looks together that did do the brand justice like some other menswear design houses.

For the spring 2016 swimwear collection, the sea inspired the Nautica design team as it relates to urban terrains. Modern architectural icons of the New York skyline become nautical details. Paired with updated sportswear pieces, swim takes on the energy and sophistication of a day in the city or a trip to Montauk.

Though one would have like to something more than swim trunks and a few sweaters thrown in for good measure, Nautica’s classic designs as it relates to nautical themes never disappoints. And putting these trunks on top male models is always a plus.
