Fashion News Alert: Derek Lam Collaborates, Fergie’s Cosmetics, and Sonia Rykiel’s New Director

Derek Lam is set to launch a second limited-edition collection for department store, Kohl’s. The spring 2013 collection was inspired by Lam’s recent trip to Rio de Janeiro.

“This DesigNation collection with Kohl’s serves as an ally to modern women, embracing the spirit of Rio and providing beautiful, inspired clothing at an affordable price,” states Lam in a press statement.

The collection will range from apparel to swimwear, which includes dresses, outerwear, shirts, tanks, skirts, capris, and pants. The prices will start at just $36 with a $98 capping point.

Lam’s latest collaboration will be available from April to May 2013.

Fergie Launches Makeup Line

Fergie has partnered with cosmetic brand Wet ‘n’ Wild to launch a cosmetic line. The 21-piece Fergie by Wet ‘n’ Wild collection will debut after Fergie’s just-released nail polish and feature makeup items priced from $3.49 to $5.99.

“It was important to me that my line is affordable to my fans but I[also] wanted to give it a luxury spin. It’s that extra little limited-edition feel of fashion,” states Fergie about the low price point.

Drawing inspiration from her fans and their cultural backgrounds many of the items have their own flair of fun. The makeup collection is set to launch in February.

Sonia Rykiel’s New Director

Sonia Rykiel has announced Geraldo da Conceicao as the new artistic director for the brand. The decision was made just after Rykiel pulled out of Paris Fashion Week.

Since the announcement of Rykiel’s diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease, the brand has been looking for a new artistic director.

Sonia Rykiel fall/winter 2012

Da Conceicao is currently the womenswear design director at Louis Vuitton. He has also previously worked under Tom Ford, Alber Elbaz, Yves Saint Laurent, and Stefano Pilati.

Da Conceicao has been tasked to relaunch the women’s-ready-to wear and accessories collection for fall/winter 2013.
