Celebrity Style: The Blondes Rule VH1 Divas

Every decade of pop culture has its designer of choice that marries fashion-forward sensibility with its version of on-stage diva glam. In the 1960s The Supremes were the epitome of high-fashion elegance in gowns by Bob Mackie and Michael Travis. While Mackie in the 1970s continued his reign as the go-to pop diva designer with gowns and outfits for Cher, even current red-carpet king Tadashi Shoji stepped into the fray with onstage outfits for The Jacksons and Earth, Wind and Fire.

Though she wasn’t a glitter-and-glam type of pop diva, Cyndi Lauper put her own individual stamp on 80s pop fashion with her Screaming Mimi,Betsey Johnson‒inspired frocks. No other pop music icon combined the rebellious oeuvre of rock n’ roll with high fashion more than Madonna. And with the help of Jean-Paul Gaultier, in the 90s, Madonna found that perfect synergy that took music and fashion-forward designs to new heights.

David and Phillipe Blond (The Blonds) have become to pop divas in 2012 what Bob Mackie, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Betsey Johnson have been to music sirens in previous decades. From Katy Perry, and Rihanna to Fergie  and Kim Khardashian, since the mid-2000s The Blonds have been the designers of choice for screen sirens and songbirds who want to show off their svelte physiques in kittenish, jewel-encrusted bustiers.

Known for the sequin-and-metallic‒embellished bustiers, The Blonds reigned supreme at this past Sunday’s VH1 Diva’s event. And it wasn’t just the ladies that flaunted looks from The Blonds fall 2012 collection, host Adam Lambert served up two cutting-edge jackets from The Blonds biker-inspired collection. Lambert opened up the event in a metal-studded persimmon leather jacket with persimmon-colored fur sleeves. Later he changed to a dample-grey motorcycle jacket.

VH1’s Diva event has become the musical fashion domain of The Blonds. In 2011, Jennifer Hudson looked fetchingly sassy in red, bejeweled vixen bustier dress from The Blonds spring 2012 collection. And at this year’s Diva extravaganza hard-belting songbirds Natasha Bedingfield and Iggy Azalea rocked jewel glammed-up biker bustiers; Natasha in a silver-chained and rickets number with Iggy Azalea in a gold mosaic bustier. And it all worked as Natasha and Iggy light up the stage belting Deee-Lites 90’s hit “Groove Is in the Heart.”

Whether The Blonds bring their sexy vixen looks to the runways of the world or music events’ red-carpets and stage shows, there are no disputes about their ability to push fashion and the rock n’ roll genre to stratospheric unknowns. Rock on Blonds!!
