Fashion Reverie’s 86th Academy Awards Red Carpet Recap

So it is a wrap! The most awaited red carpet event of the season is over. Some left with the Oscar, and other left empty handed. But, most importantly everyone brought his or her A game, well, almost everyone.

The actresses were all dazzle and smiles, while the actors confidently paraded around with their arm candy. When it comes to fashion, the Academy Awards is the place to show your best style and wear colors that best fit you.

Who managed to get it right? Fashion Reverie is here to analyze it all with you!

The Academy Awards sets the standard for is trending on the red carpet, distinguishing what is hot off of the spring fashion week runways. And also determining what is a dud!!

There were not too many fashion risks taken at 86th Academy Awards, but that is completely understandable. If you win it is a moment that you want to remember for winning your category, and not for a fashion failure.

The biggest trend was sparkly nudes. It seems most of the celebs got the memo.

Cate Blanchett wore a beaded dress by Giorgio Armani and her fair skin tone blended well into the fabric.  The Oscar winner looked sublime and once again couldn’t have worn a more perfect dress.  Her co-star Sally Hawkins went for beads as well in Valentino and while the fabric and style are amazing Fashion Reverie is not sure it was the best fit for her body type.

Angelina Jolie and Sarah Paulson wore Elie Saab and it was a surefire hit for both of them. Even though the silhouettes are almost identical, each gown embraces this season’s trend of diaphanous nudes and metallics. Angelina sported the popular metallic trend, while Sarah was stunning the diaphanous nude trend. Fashion Reverie never realized until this Academy Awards how similar these actresses are in physique and silhouette.

Black is a color that is not considered too original when it comes to special appearances since it doesn’t pop as much for the camera. As always there were few exceptions and Julia Roberts (Givenchy Haute Couture), Anne Hathaway (Gucci) and Charlize Theron (Christian Dior) managed to get our attention. All three dresses fit perfectly on these marquee actresses.

Pharrell Williams made another fashion “dippity don’t” walking the carpet in Lanvin tuxedo shorts. I think it is obvious who wears the pants in their relationship … as long as they are HAPPY (hint, hint), we are too.

Pale pink was another popular color and the gorgeous brunette celebs knew that pale pink compliments their skin tones. Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena may have been a plus one, but she was possibly more noticeable than her Oscar-winning husband Matthew McConaughey who also looked dapper in Dolce & Gabbana. Fashion Reverie thinks they were the best looking couple!

We didn’t see that many bright colors or pastels. But, there were a few, and they definitely stood out and were the right choice.

Fashion Reverie wanted to see Jennifer Lawrence in bright red and our wish came true. This strapless Dior took our breath away in a timeless design with a peplum waistline. Talented Viola Davis looked stunning once again in her favorite color green with her gown by by Escada.

Lupita Nyong’o is the lady of the hour. Fashion Reverie congratulates her on her first Oscar and amazing style. She set the bar very high for herself and now we expect nothing less than her always looking fantastic. The star showed up in a gorgeous “Nairobi” blue Prada gown made just for her. What drew most of attention were here accessories. Fred Leighton made sure she had a very unique pair of earrings and a super cool headband.

The blonde celeb trio shined and sparkled in glitter, silver and gold. Lady Gaga looked smashingly good in Versace with a light pale pink scarf while Kristin Chenoweth looked golden in a similarly shaped Roberto Cavalli. Kate Hudson was the cherry on top and made our jaws drop in a perfectly fitted Atelier Versace gown. Way to go Kate!
