Fashion News Alert: Pozen Strikes Gold, Formichetti Switches Post, and Pulitzer Transitions

Nicola_Fromichetti_06Fashion tongues wag as rumors swirl around the possible appointment of Nicola Formichetti as creative director of Diesel. Less than a week ago, WWD reported that after two years Nicola Formichetti was leaving his post as creative director of Mugler.  Joel Palix, president of Clarins Fragrance Group, which now owns the famed French design house, stated that Formichetti’s leaving was a “mutual” decision.

Now, that Formichetti does not have a place to rest his head, so to speak, Diesel may be the next big brand reaching out for the sometimes controversial Formichetti’s services.  Formichetti is a known devotee of the Diesel brand and was seen sitting front row at a recent Diesel Black Gold fashion show. Formichetti was also spotted during Paris Fashion Week rubbing shoulders with Diesel founder Renzo Rocco at the Edun fashion party.

Posen’s love of ice cream

Ice cream, ice cream; we all want ice cream. And Zac Posen likes ice cream, too. In fact, Posen like ice cream so much that he is pairing with Magnum Ice Cream to design a one-of-a-kind, 24k gold gown to go along with Magnum Ice Cream’s new golden chocolate-covered ice bar.

“When Magnum first approached me with the project, I fell in love with the ice cream bar,” Posen told ELLE.com. “I have a major sweet tooth! This type of collaboration is fun, and this particular project allowed me to work with a material I’d never had the chance to incorporate into my work.”

The gown will be covered in 10,000 hand-embroidered sequins cut from sheets of 24k gold. The 1.5 million-dollar gown will makes its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Pulitzer Dies at 81

Socialite and fashion designer Lily Pulitzer died in her home in Palm Beach, Florida on Sunday. Known as the “princess of prints,” Pulitzer’s tropical print dresses were worn by Jackie Onassis and C.Z. Guest.

At the height of their popularity in the 1960s and 70s, Pulitzer’s popular resort wear totaled sales of more than $15 million. The label, revived by a private licensing company two decades ago now has sales of over 100 million dollars, with a modern take on many of Pulitzer’s original prints.

I designed collections around whatever struck my fancy … fruits, vegetables, politics or peacocks,” Ms. Pulitzer told The Associated Press in 2009. “It was a total change of life for me, but it made people happy.”
