BET Awards 2013 Red Carpet

Downloads4072012 and the first half of 2013 has been a momentous and provocative year for African Americans. President Barack Obama was re-elected by a landslide; Gabrielle Douglas became the first African American to win the All-Around title in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics’ Olympic history; Cecily Tyson finally won Best Actress in a Broadway Play in “Trip to Bountiful,” and Snoop Dog changed his name to Snoop Lion. Does that count; well, maybe? The list goes on and on, and the BET Awards tries to celebrate as many African American accomplishments as it can within the time frame of a televised awards show.

This BET Awards even made a little history itself this year. Charlie Wilson, Justin Timberlake, Farrell, and Snoop Lion crooning back-to-back‒Charlie Wilson tunes is a bit of history making in and of itself, not to  mention the great and not so-great looks on the BET Awards red carpet.

As always Fashion Reverie keeps its readers informed of what’s hot and what’s a dippy don’t on the red carpet. Enjoy!!

There was a lot of white on the red carpet of the 2013 BET Awards. Not a surprise, when white looks some good on all those varied flesh tones of mahogany, cinnamon brown, cafe au lait and deep, dark chocolate!!

Janelle Monae made quite a statement in an all-white Dolce and Gabbana suit. LaToya Luckett was not far behind in an all-white SEN couture pants ensemble. Though Brandi Norwood was adorable in a Michael Cinco lace cocktail, she may want to rethink the clucky shoes. Ouch!! Michelle Williams and Omarosa stun in white gowns, with Omarosa showing some sexy leg.

Though a lot of celebs chose white, the ladies that opted for black really understood have to work this look on the red carpet. Nicki Minaj was sensual and mysterious in a black lace dress from Roberto Cavalli. Taraji Henson turned heads in this black cocktail stunner from Izmaylova. Lil’ Mama shows off her curves in a delicious gown from Jovani Fashions, and bringing up the rear and staying on trend  is Regina Hall in a Misguided mesh midi dress with appropriate cutouts and illusions.

Some red carpet celebrities opted out of neutrals and brought a little bit of color and variations on neutrals this time out. Gaby Douglas is looking all grown up in a peachy lace gown by Sherri Hill. Toccara Jones looks classy in Herve Leger. While Adrienne Bailon brings draped Grecian sexy back in a Michael Costello red gown.

Fashion Reverie does not leave the men out. The BET male celebrities stay current and on trend rocking the fitted suit and pants looks. Jamie Foxx embraces color and the fitted suit aesthetic in an oxblood Ozwald Boateng. Farrell is current and stylish in black Lanvin. And R&B singer Miguel and his lady Nazanin Mandi demonstrate that fashion is both now and next in a Dior Homme fall 2013 bird print shirt and Anthony Vaccarello dress, respectively.
