Throughout its history, the fashion industry has a long list of “It” girls. Regardless of whether they were models, pop stars, or film sirens, these “It Girls” inspired designers, songwriters, authors and a generation of fashion-conscious consumers. From Marianne Faithfull, Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy to Edie Sedgwick, Donyale Luna, and Jerry Hall to Madonna, Katie Perry and Rihanna, the “It Girl” defines her generation.
This red carpet season, without a doubt the “It Girls” are Lupita Nyong’o and Jennifer Lawrence. Nyong’o’s riveting performance as the slave Patsy in 12 Years a Slave has made her an obvious nominee for a variety of awards. Still, what has set her apart this season and establishes Lupita as an “It” girl is her style.
Lupita Nyong’o had fashion mavens everywhere seeing RED as she blazed the red carpet and quickly shared the best-dressed lists with Hollywood elite in this decadent Ralph Lauren cape dress. Slightly reminiscent of the Tom Ford cape dress worn by Gwenyth Paltrow last year, Lupita clearly won the “wore it best” list as well. It was Lupita’s first time on the red carpet, and fashion moguls alike agreed Lupita was THE RED CARPET!
Although the jewel-toned blue was the trend on the red carpet at the SAG Awards, all eyes were on “It Girl”Lupita Nyong’o. Lupita stunned in a teal Gucci ensemble with a jewel-embellished neckline. We are still salivating over this vision of opulence while we await The Oscars.
You can’t help but love the girl next door no matter what she dons; you love it because you love her. Genuinely shocked at being the nights’ first win at the Golden Globes, Jennifer Lawrence was a vision of grace in more ways than one in this Raf Simons for Christian Dior dress. Jennifer would days again wear Christian Dior to the SAG Awards, will she be replacing Natalie Portman as the Dior girl? Rumor has it, she will be. If so, we like it!
Jennifer Lawrence did not disappoint critics at the SAG Awards as she dazzled in the blue theme trend of the night in this strapless sequined Christian Dior dress. In true humble fashion that is Jennifer Lawrence, she muffled the fashion fuss by complaining of armpit fat. Jennifer, we didn’t see armpit fat; we saw sparkles.
