Grammys 2014 Red Carpet Recap

Music legends, pop icons, great stage performances and an array of fashion-forward designs; it was all there, front at center at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. The Staples Center was full of talented musicians and quite a few legends from the music industry. After some amazing performances, the gramophone trophies found their home in the hands of new owners. As the music stars partied the night away, Fashion Reverie worked on bringing you best and most fashion-forward looks from the red carpet.

Just when we thought that the queen of reinvention has no cards left up her sleeve, Madonna made history yet again. During her performance with Macklemore, Ryan Lewis and Mary Lambert crooned “Same Love,” as thirty-three couples were married in support of marriage equality. Queen Latifah officiated these marriages as the audience and the fellow nominees teared up. Breaking barriers and pushing the proverbial envelope is commonplace for Madonna, but this history-making event proved that the “Material Girl” is in step with national sentiments around marriage equality.

Madonna’s date for the night was her son, David.  It looks like he is following in his mom’s stylish steps as the two walked the red carpet in matching Ralph Lauren black suits. The Queen of Pop spiced it up with a cane, studded glove and a grill. Kudos to David for picking out the outfits!

Pharrell Williams and his hat caused a big happy stir during the arrivals. An accessory Fashion Reverie is glad he didn’t leave at home. The strange, crocked, oversized brownish hat is a Vivienne Westwood masterpiece. Remember if you are height challenged, a tall hat can make you look taller. Way to go Pharrell!

Music royalty, Queen Bey turned up the heat opening the awards ceremony with “Drunk in Love.” Ivy’s mom looked hot—as Jamie Foxx would later comment. After her performance, she slipped into an amazing dress by Michael Costello. Sheer floral lace, physique-hugging gowns are exactly the fashion statement we expect to see at the Grammys. Costello will be showing during New York Fashion Week and the gown is from his fall/winter 2014 collection.

Katy Perry walked the red carpet in a fresh from the runway Haute Couture Valentino gown. When it comes to Katy Perry it is very hard to predict what look she will flaunt at awards shows. Still, it was a pleasant surprise to see her with her natural hair color and a powder pink gown. Katy’s musical dress is absolutely perfect for this occasion and it suits her fun personality. It is feminine with a soft silhouette and an unexpected lyrical quality.

Rita Ora literally shined on Sunday night.  The metallic, long sleeved short dress was a surprise since Ora enjoys longer dresses, matched with silver sandals, lots of rings and loose wavy hair. Still, with this look, we were impressed with this absinth green gown from Lanvin.

Pink and Colbie Callait both chose red dresses. Pink wore Johanna Johnson’s fitted dress that was an interesting switch for this buffed, edgy performer. Though the gown accentuated her athletic physique, it just didn’t seem like Pink.

Colbie on the other hand nailed it with the Dubai–based designer Ezra Santos. This hot number revealed just enough skin to keep Colbie alluringly sexy. Fashion Reverie loves this dress but would prefer different jewelry and a better coif.

Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are not only musically talented; they also fashion-forward and stylish. This pair of Grammy holders looked stunning individually and as a team. Ryan rocked a houndstooth suit by Mr. Turk and a satin tie, and Macklemore stood out in a teal velour suit and a bow tie. They both had on a great pair of loafers.

Fashion Reverie would like to sign off with a very simple advice. If you look anything like Nadeea Voilanova at the 2014 Grammys, rethink your choice!!
