2022 Met Gala Red Carpet Mirrors “Gilded Glamor”

2022 Met Gala feature

The 2022 Met Gala, displaying this year’s theme, “Gilded Glamor,” was another one for the books. The theme reflected the American Gilded Age from 1870 to the early1900s. So, we got to pretend we are living in some of the most popular shows like “Bridgerton” or “The Gilded Age.” Designers and celebrities each found inspiration related to their own experiences and identity. Watching the arrivals this year was especially exciting, since of celebrities’ red-carpet choices were upcycled or vintage looks.  Fashion Reverie shares our ten top looks!

Rosalía

Not only is Rosalia a daring singer but her talent translates to fashion, too. She always seems confident and comfortable with herself. This fashion icon in the making wore Givenchy. Her date was Matthew M. Williams, Givenchy’s creative director. It took three weeks to make this dress that has Rosalía stamped all over.  This transparent, beaded, sexy gown with fabric flowing around her shoulder was embellished with a long train and metal neck halter that perfectly matched the earrings. The look was made complete with mysterious dark shades.

Emily Ratajkowski

Now this is a very sexy Gilded Age look. The gown was a special Atelier Versace vintage piece from 1992. Emily literally fired up the red carpet in this heavily beaded two-piece look that is already part of fashion history. This garment was originally worn on the runway by supermodel Yasmeen Ghauri.

Jessica Chastain

Jessica Chastain was of course in Gucci. This was an old times-inspired burgundy look; however, this choice did not reflect an American Gilded Age aesthetic, all that much. It had a silver snake shape embroidery from her waist to around her neckline and Chastain wore a matching turban. The burgundy color complimented Chastain’s pale skin and this look conjured up a North African vibe.

Megan Thee Stallion

Megan looked like a golden bird ready for takeoff. She was wearing Moschino and which is sort of a modern take on Gilded Glamor. The fit was perfect, and the high slit made the look just provocative enough.

Sarah Jessica Parker

SJP completely nailed “Gilded Glamour” the look. This was a true Gilded Age costume. She wore a Christopher John Rogers ball gown with beautiful no shoulders sleeves, with bow ties. Philip Treacy headpiece completed the look.

KaceyMusgraves

Kacey Musgraves

Kacey Musgraves was glamorous in Prada. We saw lots of black dresses on the carpet but this one stood out because of its classic form with modern elements like the current popular cut out top, colorful embroidery, opera gloves and a feather fan! Musgraves’ updo coif made the look perfect.

Alicia Keys

Keys opted for a futuristic version of Gilded Glamour by Ralph Lauren that paid tribute to her favorite city, New York City. The silver dress resembled highrises and skyscrapers in Manhattan and her cape reflected more famous New York City’s buildings.

Glenn Close

Well, there is no red carpet this season without a fuschia Valentino garment!!  However, depending on who wears it, Valentino can get a new life. Glenn Close looked divine in her monochrome choice walking the carpet with her date, Pierpaolo Piccioli!

Gigi Hadid

At first glance, this red-carpet look didn’t look like Gigi was on theme. However, if you think outside of the box, this Versace ensemble did reflect the theme in a more projected-toward- the-future kind of way. This is a Gilded Glamour inspired look of the future. All the elements are there except they used unexpected fabrics that would not come to mind. Latex? Who would have thought it would be a good idea?

Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson

Shut down the red carpet! What a view! The couple made their red-carpet debut in Washington, DC at the White House Correspondents’ dinner a couple of days. Pete looked dapper and Kim was successfully channeling Marilyn Monroe. She went blonde and wore the iconic dress Marilyn wore while singing happy birthday to JFK in 1962! The dress is adorned with 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis.

Does this dress conjure up images of Gilded Glamour? Absolutely not, but it is Kim K. She gets a pass!!
