Blues for the Beach

Screen-Shot-2014-07-06-at-6.11.09-PMThere’s something about the sound of the waves crashing on the shore that always leave us feeling a little more zen.  It turns out it’s not just the sound, but also the color of the ocean.  “Psychologically, blue is the opposite of red, it lowers blood pressure,” explains Leslie Harrington, executive director of The Color Association of The United States.  Jeannie Mai, host of “How Do I Look?” is completely aware of the serene effects of blue and recommends incorporating it into your style.  “I encourage women to wear blue when they want to create a calming essence… Wear it on a first date- something turquoise or a light aqua sweater… it makes a great first impression and creates relaxation.”

Now that the summer heat is in full swing, Fashion Reverie has rounded up our favorite beachy nail shades of azures, turquoises, and tropical greens.

With temperatures reaching in the high 80s you are probably yearning for a day at the beach. While luxuriating at the beach, dive right into a vibrant nail blue such as Morgan Taylor’s Making Waves.  This bright statement color is bound to make you feel relaxed and happy.

Deborah Lippmann’s Video Killed the Radio Star is a vibrant hue perfect for summer.  Described as “bombdiggity blue,” it’s certainly bold enough to fit in with Lippmann’s dynamic 80’s Rewind theme in addition to being the perfect seaside color.

For a calmer, slightly muted blue, we love Essie’s Hide and Go Chic.  The color is reminiscent of the darker blue waters of New England, which in turn creates a very nautical feel.

If you’re dreaming of a tropical oasis CND VINYLUX’s Cerulean Sea may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Just one coat and you’ll feel like you’re transported onto a beach with a tropical drink in hand.  The best part of the VINYLUX Weekly Polish System is that it is designed to prevent yellowing and breakdown, allowing your manicure to last longer than with traditional polish.

For a lighter take on our newest favorite nail polish shade, try Morgan Taylor’s Take Me To Your Tribe.  This gorgeous light blue crème adds a fresh and exciting feel to the classic manicure.

If blue is calming, then turquoise must be the epitome of tranquility.  Morgan Taylor has once again hit the mark with Going Native, a relaxing turquoise just begging to be shown off in front of a sandy palm tree laced backdrop.

While blue is certainly the perfect summer option, this list wouldn’t be complete without a pop of green.  Might we suggest CND VINYLUX’s Lush Tropics for a daring-in-your-face summer mani.

So this summer, ditch the pale pinks and reds in favor of a color inspired by the sea.
