Are you a last-minute shopper and did Halloween just slip up on you? Well, if you are and you are looking for that one-of-a-kind, out-of-the-box costume, New York City’s Screaming Mimi’s may have just the right Halloween costume for you.
Since 1978, Screaming Mimi’s has been the go-to shop for vintage clothes. With a selection that dates to garments and accessories from the 1920s to the much sought-after 90s vintage clothing, Screaming Mimi’s stock has an air of authenticity that is difficult to match.
For this Halloween, legendary NYC vintage boutique-Screaming Mimi’s and Pratt Institute teamed up this year and held a themed “Under the Sea” costume competition for the fashion design students at Pratt. The winning design by Lizzy Gee is being displayed in the store window, along with the finalists’ costumes in store from now until October 31.
Judges on the panel included Lynn Yaeger, Mickey Boardman, Laura Wills (screaming Mimi’s owner), Jennifer Minniti (Pratt Institute Fashion Chair),and Melanie Schmidt (Pratt Institute Adjunct Fashion Professor & Costume Designer). The costumes are available for purchase in store.
