With International Bridal Week spring 2016 collections less than two weeks away, the roster is filling up with bridal designers that will be showing in New York City for the first time and designers that are producing their debut bridal collections. Oftentimes, after designers have had success with their ready-to-wear (RTW) collections presented during New York Fashion Week (NYFW), many will expand into bridal wear. NYFW veteran Malan Breton is presenting first bridal collection this season Pamella Roland has also expanded in bridal, as have Jenny Packham, Monique Lhuillier and Dennis Basso.
That said; expanding from bridal into RTW is a bit uncommon, but it can be done. At the forefront of this unusual trajectory is Ines Di Santo. For over thirty years Di Santo has been recognized as a leader in bridal couture. Di Santo’s wedding gowns made small screen debuts in “Mario & Courtney’s Wedding Fiesta” on TLC and “My Fair Wedding”with David Tutera. 2015 marks Di Santo’s expansion into RTW, and one surefire hit was Tennis Grand Slam Champion Serena William wearing a gown from Di Santo’s fall 2015 collection to the Vanity Fair Oscar party.
So, you might ask, “why expands into RTW eveningwear”? Well, Fashion Reverie says “why not”? Consider, that bridal wear has expanded beyond the traditional bridal gowns of your much older sister or your mom. Bridal is a three billion dollar industry in the US, and that enormous market includes bridal gowns that go way beyond traditional bridal fare. Many brides choose bridal gowns that other than the white, ecru or eggshell color could fit easily on any major red carpet of awards show.
For her fall 2015 RTW evening wear collection, Di Santo borrows from her fall 2015 bridal aesthetic. Di Santo incorporates some the Art Deco beading that was evident in her fall 2015 bridal collections. And her signature mermaid and fit-to-flare signature bridal silhouettes are also carried over into the RTW. In addition, Di Santo has some very fashion-forward appealing cocktail dresses in this collection as well as red-feathered statement gown that is editorial gold!
Though the collection has only been out a few months, Bergdorf Goodman has already picked up some looks from the line. Couture bridal wear proliferation, and soon-to-be RTW eveningwear stardom, what’s next Ines Di Santo, world domination? Well, maybe you should aim a little lower. How about fashion world domination, does that fit? We think so.
