Where are the boys?
With the exit of Michael Bastian, Y-3, and several other menswear designers from New York Fashion Week (NYFW), many fashion industry insiders wonder about the future of menswear during NYFW. Though the Cadillac-sponsored Men’s Day prior to NYFW has kept some menswear designers showing in NYC, the initiative only has room for a dozen so designers showing on one day.
Well, the CFDA to the rescue. As reported this past September, the CFDA is organizing a New York Men’s Fashion Week that parallels to the men’s shows in London, Milan, and Paris. This project, launched two years ago is still in taking shape with plans to launch in mid- July of 2015, corresponding to Liberty, Project, Capsule, and MRket trade shows.
“We still have many points to verify, but we have tentative dates so that we can organize this first edition in July 2015,” said Steven Kolb, CEO of the CFDA, to WWD.
Ralph Lauren, Michael Bastian, and Michael Kors have already signed on with Calvin Klein, John Varvatos, and Thom Browne hopefully opting in.
