Fashion News Alert: McQueen Cancels, Kane Grows, and Target’s New Guest Designer

Alexander McQueen designer, Sarah Burton, has decided to cancel the fall 2013 runway show this February. Burton is expecting twins this February.

Burton is not the only designer to pull out of next month’s fashion week events. Other designers that have opted out of this season’s runway shows are Peter Som, Chris Benz, and Katie Holmes.

The collection will still be shown to a select group of 100 editors on March 5th after the fall 2013 season shows have ended.

Kane Grows 

Scottish designer Christopher Kane has been all about expanding his label. PPR, the luxury corporation that owns Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney and Balenciaga owns a 51% stakes in Kane’sLondon-based label.

“Christopher Kane is already established as a luxury label and has a tremendous intrinsic growth potential,” states PPR CEO Francios-Henri Pinault. “We thus have great ambitions for the brand and will enable it to benefit from our expertise and know-how, while providing the space for it to further develop its own creative identity.”

It has been reported that the designer is planning to open his first official store along with launching a ready-to-wear line.

Target’s New Guest Designer

While Prabal Gurung has yet to hit the Target shelves (February 10), they have already announced the next guest designer—Kate Young.

With clients like Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams, this celebrity designer/stylist has designed slightly less formal dresses for the retail brand.

“Kate is a nontraditional partner for us. This is the first time we’ve worked with a stylist,” a Target representative told WWD.

The designer’s exclusive collection for Target will range in prices from $14.99 to $89.99. It is scheduled to arrive at Target stores and Target.com on April 14.
