The Tommy Hilfiger brand celebrates thirty years in fashion with an announcement of a new famous brand ambassador, a second store in Paris and a biography. For 30 years Tommy Hilfiger has been the epitome of American sportswear. Founded in 1985, Tommy Hilfiger has evolved into a lifestyle brand that includes a large selection of ready-to-wear, accessories, fragrances, shoes, and denim with collections for men, women, and children.
The 30th anniversary celebration actually started in December 2014 with the announcement of Tennis superstar Rafael Nadal as a global brand ambassador for Tommy Hilfiger. “Rafael Nadal has been a longtime personal friend and supporter of our brand, and I’m continuously inspired by his dedication and passion for his sport,” said Tommy Hilfiger when announcing this collaboration.
The second store in Paris that opened this week with a star-studded gala is located at 43 boulevard des Capucines, just a short walk from the first store on the Champs Elysées. For fall 2015 Tommy Hilfiger will publish his memoir, a look back at 30 years in fashion. The memoir biography will be published by Random House imprint Ballantine Books.

Skinny no more
On Friday, April 3 French deputies voted a ban on super thin fashion models. French agencies in Paris were outraged and protested.
“Anyone whose body mass index… is below a certain level will not be able to work as a catwalk model,” according to the amendment voted in the National Assembly lower house of parliament in a fashionmag.com article. “This is an important message to young women who see these models as an aesthetic example,” added Health Minister Marisol Touraine.
French agencies that employ models considered too thin could face fines of up to $85,000 or six months in jail. Similar measures have already taken place in Italy, Spain, and Israel.

Men’s style rules
For the first time in ten years The New York Times has launched a new section. The “Men’s Style Section” which debuted on April 3 will be a monthly section dedicated to men’s style and content for men that would have been in its recently shuttered “Home” section.
“The men’s market is very hot right now,” said Brendan Monaghan, NYT’s vice-president of luxury advertising. “Last year, we saw a 30 percent increase in men’s related ads in the newspaper, T, and digital combined. The demand for this is huge.”

I think we should start having models with different body types so that everyone can relate.
