Fashion Reverie Campaign Spotlight: Moschino Spring 2016

Without a doubt, Jeremy Scott is one of the most exciting fashion designers in the pantheon of current designers. No longer fashion’s enfant terrible, Jeremy Scott is experiencing a wave of acceptance and market proliferation that few fashion designers ever experience; particularly, in such an oversaturated market. He’s come a long way from Kansas City and his post as Moschino’s creative director proves that Jeremy Scott’s fashion vision and trajectory is relevant, true, and much needed.

For the Moschino spring 2016 collection, Jeremy Scott looked to street signs, a construction site and a 1970s retro car wash for inspiration. As always with Jeremy Scott, his overtop runway presentations have a multitude of themes and reference points, harkening back to past fashion motifs with models that really know how to strut on a catwalk.

That said; Scott is a genius at funneling current trends and design aesthetic through a prism familiar styles and silhouettes. And for the Moschino spring 2016 ad campaign Scott successfully mixes the old with the new. Employing supermodels Joan Smalls, Fei Fei Sun, Lexi Boling, and Maartje Verhoef, this bright and frolic-filled campaign was styled by Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, and shot by Steven Meisel.

In a retro couture salon theme, the ladies pose somberly in some of the collection’s most outlandish pieces, including a feather dress, a gown adorned with ’50s-style taillights and sequined eveningwear meant to mimic flashing neon signs. The car wash brushes and brush mops from the runway presentation create a humorous, fantastical tableau, and the season’s accessories—including a Powerpuff Girl handbag and a Moschino hard hat —are given plenty of attention as well.
