General Idea Fall/Winter 2013

Menswear brand, General Idea, takes a journey into a nomadic adventure with their fall/winter collection. Creative director Bamsuk Choi drew inspiration from the photography book A Tibetan Pilgrimage by Steve McCurry. Incorporating the brands signature athletic and sporty aesthetic, the continuing trend of color blocking was dominant throughout the collection.

General Idea takes color blocking to a whole new level with a color palette of green, navy, and orange. The innovative silhouettes showcased the interesting use of color blocking without ruining the modern and mature feel to the collection. The elongated silhouette was a great choice to incorporate the utilitarian details in the collection.

This season collection becomes functional than in some previous seasons with Bumsuk Choi layering many pieces from trench coats, bomber jackets, and long sleeve shirts. Although most of the garments are paired together with matching trousers, many of the separates stand alone as great additions to any man’s wardrobe.

General Idea’s urban style is given an edgy updated look by utilizing color blocking and more fitted trousers. By juxtaposing boxy cuts against clean lines and flawless tailoring, Choi continues creating signature outerwear season after season that  many male consumers would want to own. The shirts themselves stand-alone as a garment demonstrating that functional pieces can also be fashion forward.

Other standouts in the collection included a grey pullover sweatshirt with royal blue stripe detail, charcoal tapered pants with zippered pockets and a black jacquard oversize trench coat. The international inspiration gives this collection a fresh and sleek design while showing a sporty 70s vibe which is very popular this season.
