Katya Leonovich has taken her inspiration and made it into a reality. Drawing her inspiration from her own artwork that focused on musculature , Leonovich brought strength and softness to her 2013 fall/winter collection.
Leonovich incorporates various fabrics such as python, fur, chiffon, wool, leather and silk. While her color palette consisted of mostly hues of blue, grey, and black, the draped fabrics and techniques used brought a glamorous finish to the garments and elevated the collection to fashion as art. There was also a three-dimensional aspect involved, which created a shadowing effect within the layers of the fabric.
This collection featured corset belts and zipper details which gave this very wearable collection a certain amount of edge and fashion-forward sensibility. By incorporating perfectly placed micro-pleats, and crinkled sleeves into the swarthing, voluminous fabric, Leonovich was able to manifest her aesthetic of hard and soft textures and construction funneled through her point of view of edgy clothes for that risk-taking fashionista.
Creating a soft and hard design at the same time is hard for many designers to pull off, but not for Leonovich. By making every piece wearable and equally as fashion forward, the woman that wants to start spicing up her wardrobe should start with Katya Leonovich.
