Lady Gaga and La Perla Steam Up the Video Screen

Lady Gaga’s get-up for the opening video scene of her latest single, “G.U.Y.,” will probably not be copied by even the most adventurous fashionistas.  Costumed in a body stocking and huge feathered wings, she stumbles through a dry terrain with an arrow stuck in her back.  She ends up in a pool in California’s Hearst Castle, where the majority of the video—actually a mini-movie of almost 12 minutes—was shot. You may never swim at Hearst Castle, but this summer you can go “gaga” and get the La Perla swimsuit that Lady Gaga flaunts in the video.

Fashion Director Brandon Maxwell and Costume Designer Perry Meek worked with a basic color palette of black and white, with a few flashes of gold and a little pink thrown in the cameo appearance by “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” and a pool full of synchronized swimmers.  The La Perla suit, worn by Lady Gaga in a solo bedroom scene, really lights up the video’s color palette.

“Dunes”—the Lycra® suit from La Perla’s 2014 Summer Beachwear Collection—offers peek-a-boo vertical laser-cut graphic inserts on transparent mesh tulle and features multifunctional straps that can be worn around the back or attached to the neck.  In this case, more is less; this one-piece swimsuit evokes the same delicate sensuality as the La Perla lingerie.  It retails for $398.

This was not La Perla’s first video appearance.  Back in 2007, La Perla launched its iconic “Cage Bustier” creation, worn by stars such as Victoria Beckham in the Spice Girls reunion video “Headlines.”

The current collection draws its inspiration from the elements of earth, light (or fire) and water with the female figure considered as the fourth element. La Perla sells its collections through a selected network of flagship boutiques, and in the best department stores and specialized shops, around the world.

La Perla, founded in Italy 1954, is a name synonymous with sensuous, luxurious lingerie. With haute couture as its inspiration, La Perla in 1971 launched its beachwear collection.

La Perla’s spring/summer Season 2014 campaign, featuring supermodels Malgosia Bela, Liu Wen and Cara Delevingne, signaled a decisive change in La Perla’s strategy.  According to the company statement, “The message the company wants to convey with these diverse images, backgrounds and personalities is that there are multiple styles of femininity—a woman’s personality can speak for itself.”

If you’re a Lady Gaga fan you can catch up with her at the legendary Roseland Ballroom in New York through April 7th. “Your life is your own art piece,” Lady Gaga recently said on “The Today Show”, “you can make it whatever you want.”
