Remember when your parents told you that you are only as good as your word? Well, it seems that South African designer David Tlale did not heed that advice when he failed to pay People’s Revolution owner and maven Kelly Cutrone for services rendered.
As of yesterday Cutrone released a statement that her fashion PR firm, People’s Revolution would not be involved with Tlale’s spring 2014 presentation at the Box at Lincoln Center. “People’s Revolution is canceling our participation in the David Tlale show, Thursday, September 5, 9:30am in the Box at Lincoln Center because we have not been paid. Please note no one from production will be in attendance,” according to People’s Revolution.
David Tlale received much critical praise for NYC fashion pundits when he first showed during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week last February. The question now is will the show go on?

I thought PR agencies are supposed to protect their clients, not abandon them. David Tlale is a respectable, decent and talented designer from South Africa. I’ve been to his shows before at The Lincoln Center and learned he wanted to hire People’s Revolution as he believed the agency will help him boost his image in establishing the David Tlale brand in the United States. With that in mind, certainly, he doesn’t have the intention of running away from his obligations. It is unfortunate this happened. In this kind of business, it’s show me the money first. Many are still standing up for David Tlale. His Spring 2014 collection today was beyond expectations as he has always proven – a great success, and that is, without People’s Revolution.
