Mercedes-Benz Swimwear Fashion Week-Miami began with the eclectic Lisa Blue, who brought us back to the 1950s with high-waisted bottoms – Think Betty Page and Vargas pinup girls.
The Lisa Blue collection by kicked off Mercedes-Benz Swimwear Fashion Week-Miami at the Raleigh Hotel. Though the Lisa Blue opened with a white monokini with gold trimming, staying true to theme of the brand’s moniker, Australian designer Lisa Burke had the color blue as the predominant color.
By contrast, Other, Burke’s second collection, incorporated cowboy boots, coupled with denim swimsuits (mostly with hints of red for a little extra pop). In Burke’s The Cover Girl collection there were lace embellishments and some girlie, flirty and fun nautical swimsuits, with blue and white stripes.
One of the standouts of Burke’s collections was an amazing silky robe cover-up which beautifully accented the models’ sun-kissed skin. The Enchantress collection referenced the Mediterranean sunlight beaches evidenced in white and gold swimsuits paired with gold accessories. Karina Smirnoff of Dancing with the Stars danced flamenco in a bright pink, ruffled-top bikini, accompanied by a flamenco-style long skirt about half-way through the show.
Towards the end of the show, a group danced with a paper dragon as if celebrating the Chinese New Year. There was an amazing monokini in white and blue, reflecting two dragons towards the top (almost as if they were looking at each other) then one small dragon addorned the bottom. To everyone’s surprise, for the finale, Lisa Burke walked the runway as the last model wearing a black two-piece with a Chinese inspired headpiece. Lisa Burke has a multitude of gifts when it comes to swimwear and her collection reflected her eclecticism and craftsmanship!!
