Are Fashion Weeks still relevant? With the retail market in decline—Macy’s is closing 100 stores in 2017—, a stagnating luxury market, the explosion of e-commerce, a lack of consumer confidence, many fashion pundits continue to question if Fashion Weeks, as we know them to be, still has a place in the ever-evolving, peripatetic fashion industry.
Last season the CFDA brought in the Boston Consulting Group to assist in developing a strategy to revamp New York Fashion Week. The verdict is still out, but it is quite obvious that something needs to change.
Separating the menswear collections from the women’s wear collections has been a step in the right direction. But, it’s not enough. Many designers are adapting the “See Now, Buy Now” business model. Mara Hoffman and Monique L’huillier were some of the first American designers to adopt this business model. And for spring 2017 Tommy Hilfiger is having a “See Now, Buy Now” event.
Whatever the results of these new business and strategies, Fashion Reverie is always primed to bring its loyal audience all the news and excitement from NYFWS. Remember, we take you from the front lines of fashion to the front row. And this season, in spite of inequities in the market, promises to be exciting and provocative. In addition to coverage and pre-coverage of the spring 2017 shows, Fashion Reverie will bring its viewers some surprises, and back after a long absence is our “Dippity Don’ts” feature, highlighting all the hilarious and very bad street fashion of the spring 2017 season.
There are a host of brands making their NYFW: The Shows debut for the spring 2017 season. The list includes Anniesa Hasibuan, Artistix, Fashion Istanbul, Lisa N. Hoang, Olivine Gabbro, Irina Vitjaz, Lanyu, KYBOE, Nancy Vuu, Namilia, Oday Shakar, Risd Apparel, Toutiao X Acfn, and Yulia Magdych. And this season marks the return of Michael Costello, Band of Outsiders, Project Runway, and Byron Lars to the fashion calendar.
