The Emmy Awards marks the start of award season. And though the Emmy Awards takes place as we have officially moved into the fall season, many of the celebrities of the red carpet were flaunting spring/summer 2013 red-carpet looks that fashion industry professionals had just witnessed during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
Though there were some familiar faces on the red carpet, the 64th Primetime Emmy Awards introduced a slew of newcomers to its red carpet. And some really pulled it together, and others are a work in progress. Still, there was lots of great fashion and like the spring/summer 2013 collections, simple silhouettes and vibrant color ruled the day.
Monique Lhuillier was a red-carpet favorite at this year’s Emmys. Just ask Ginnifer Goodwin and Top Chef’s Padma Lakshmi. Both looked fetiching, Padma in a traffic-stopping tangerine number and Ginnifer in a poppy-hued Lhuillier stunner. While Scandal’s Kerry Washington shimmers beautifully in Vivienne Westwood.
One of the hot colors of the season is yellow; and not just your standard yellow that pairs well with lots of other colors. We are talking about a bold yellow that needs no help, but commands attention all on its own. And that is just what Modern Family’s Julie Bowen in Monique Lhuillier and Claire Danes in Lanvin did. But they didn’t out do Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks who was va va va voom in Christian Siriano.
Speaking of va va voom, few celebrities can trump sexy siren Sofia Vergara in Zuhair Murad, while Nicole Kidman is sophisticated and slightly demure in a white Antonio Berardi with blue metallic beading. Zooey Deschanel was heavenly in a custom-made Reem Acra gown.
Project Runway’s Heidi Klum was breathtaking in a plunging sea-foam, high slit Alexandre Vauthier gown. Mad Men’s Jessica Pare demonstrated that less is more in a white asymmetrical Jason Wu gown. And Fashion Police’s Kelly Osbourne’s hair matched her elegant Zac Posen lilac dress, proving that an edgy hair color can work on the red carpet if the head-to-look is on point.
Though there were explosions of color at the Primetime Emmy’s, some celebrities chose to stick with black, and its many variations. Elizabeth Moss was one of the few celebrities that went with a print. And she looked glamorous in a Dolce Gabbana print with ruffles. Guiliana Rancic was the epitome of regal beauty in a Romona Keveza, while Mad Men’s January Jones was fetchingly fashion forward in Zac Posen.
