The 32nd Sarajevo Film Festival (SFF), which concluded on August 21, 2026, once again proved that some of Europe’s most compelling red-carpet fashion happens outside the traditional festival circuit of Cannes and Venice. For eight days, Sarajevo welcomed celebrated international filmmakers and actors alongside the leading stars of Bosnian and regional cinema, creating a red carpet that felt glamorous, sophisticated and distinctly European.
Held from August 14 through 21, the festival brought together an impressive international lineup. Rather than following the highly stylized Hollywood formula, Sarajevo’s red carpet favored individuality, elegant tailoring, sophisticated evening wear, and several memorable designer moments.

Emily Watson: British Elegance in Sarajevo
One of the festival’s most important international guests was Emily Watson, who served as president of the Feature Film Competition jury and received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo for her contribution to cinema. The British actress has a long relationship with the festival, having first visited Sarajevo in 1996.
Watson brought her characteristic understated sophistication to the festival. Her approach to red-carpet dressing favors polished silhouettes and elegant simplicity rather than excessive embellishment, making her a natural fit for Sarajevo’s more intimate and culturally focused atmosphere.
Her presence was particularly significant because she was not simply a celebrity guest; she played a central role in the festival’s artistic program. The jury she led ultimately awarded the for Best Narrative Feature t“Heart of Sarajevo”o Sandra Wollner’s “Everytime.”

Woody Harrelson: Hollywood Comes to Sarajevo
Oscar-nominated American actor Woody Harrelson was another major international presence at the 2026 festival. He received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo in recognition of his contribution to cinema. The festival also screened Michael Winterbottom’s “Welcome to Sarajevo,” a film particularly connected to the city’s history and the festival’s identity.
Harrelson’s appearance brought a touch of Hollywood star power to a festival. His relaxed approach to dressing also fit naturally with Sarajevo’s less formal, more personality-driven fashion atmosphere.

Branko Đurić Đuro and Tanja Ribič: Family Glamour
One of the most memorable regional celebrity appearances came from actor and musician Branko Đurić Đuro, his wife, Slovenian actress Tanja Ribič, and their daughter Ela Đurić.
The family made a stylish appearance together on the red carpet, with Ribič particularly standing out in a long floral-print dress, while Đurić opted for a lighter summer look. Their appearance brought a relaxed, personal quality to the festival’s celebrity parade.

Diego Luna: International Star Power
Mexican actor and director Diego Luna was one of the festival’s most anticipated international stars. The “Y Tu Mamá También,” “Rogue One,” and “Andor” actor received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo and presented his latest directorial film, “Ashes,” while also participating in a festival masterclass.
Luna appeared on Sarajevo’s red carpet with relaxed confidence that has become part of his signature style. His menswear choices demonstrated how modern tailoring can feel formal enough for a major film festival without becoming overly rigid.
His appearance also reflected the international reach of SFF. Sarajevo has increasingly become a meeting point between regional cinema and major international filmmakers, and Luna’s visit was one of the clearest examples of that global connection.

Razija Čolaković: Modest Glamour
Razija Čolaković was another local personality bringing a more covered interpretation of red-carpet glamour to the 2026 Sarajevo Film Festival. Known to audiences in Bosnia and Herzegovina through her public presence and social-media work, Čolaković appeared at SFF in a dramatic full-length black gown with a highly structured silhouette. The look stood apart from the more revealing evening wear frequently seen on contemporary film-festival carpets. Its long silhouette and substantial coverage created a sense of modest glamour, while the architectural construction gave the ensemble a distinctly fashion-forward quality. Her look demonstrated that modest dressing can still be dramatic and sophisticated, particularly when strong tailoring, sculptural construction and a monochromatic palette are used effectively.

Sarah Čerkez: The Red Carpet’s Standout Fashion Moment
From a fashion perspective, one of the most talked-about looks of SFF 2026 came from Sarah Čerkez, who wore an extraordinary creation by Marko Feher x eterna. The dramatic black design was made from approximately 2.5 meters of damaged eco-leather and more than 2,000 individually connected hearts. The hearts created a sculptural surface that transformed the familiar symbol of the Sarajevo Film Festival—the Heart of Sarajevo—into a couture-like fashion statement.
The look was more than a glamorous red-carpet dress. It connected fashion, sustainability and Sarajevo’s cultural identity. The use of damaged material gave the creation a second life, while the thousands of hearts referenced one of the festival’s most recognizable symbols. With its dramatic silhouette and intricate construction, Čerkez’s look easily ranks among the most memorable fashion moments of the 2026 festival.

Goran Bogdan: Balkan Leading-Man Style
Croatian-Bosnian actor Goran Bogdan was among the regional stars on the opening-night red carpet. His presence was a reminder that the Sarajevo Film Festival is first and foremost an important platform for Southeast European cinema.
Bogdan’s understated, contemporary approach to menswear complemented the overall mood of the festival: sophisticated but not excessively formal, with an emphasis on tailoring and personal style.
The actor was photographed alongside an impressive group of regional and international guests, reinforcing Sarajevo’s role as the cinematic meeting point of the Balkans.

Hanka Paldum: A Sarajevo Icon Makes a Statement
No celebration of Sarajevo’s local celebrity glamour would be complete without Hanka Paldum, one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most beloved sevdah singers and an enduring icon of the country’s cultural scene.
Paldum made an appearance on the 2026 Sarajevo Film Festival red carpet, immediately attracting attention with a sophisticated black-and-white ensemble that went beyond traditional red-carpet glamour. Her look incorporated Palestinian-inspired symbolism, transforming her fashion appearance into a statement of solidarity and cultural awareness. Reports from the festival noted a map of Palestine incorporated into the design, while the overall ensemble combined a flowing white gown with a structured black vest.
The choice felt particularly powerful in Sarajevo, a city whose own history has made questions of war, displacement, identity and solidarity an important part of its cultural consciousness. Rather than choosing a purely decorative festival gown, Paldum used the international visibility of the SFF red carpet to communicate a message through fashion
What made the 2026 Sarajevo Film Festival particularly successful from a fashion perspective was the balance between international celebrity glamour and regional identity. Instead of attempting to replicate Cannes or Venice, Sarajevo continued to develop its own visual language. With its combination of acclaimed international guests, beloved regional stars and increasingly adventurous fashion, Sarajevo 2026 made a strong case for itself as one of Europe’s most intriguing film-festival red carpets.
