The Fashion Wunderkinds of 2020

For the spring 2020 and the ensuing fall 2020 season, consumers will witness a return to the roaring twenties. Vintage is expected to dominate the upcoming fashion seasons with streetwear aesthetics continuing to be prevalent—despite Virgil Abloh’s predictions. There’s a new generation of designers set to define the new decade, and here are Fashion Reverie’s picks.

Christopher John Rogers
Christopher John Rogers is the most recent winner of the Vogue/CFDA Fashion Fund, giving him the stamp of approval of Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour herself. The Hollywood stylist set is loving him, and he’s been dressing red carpet celebrities, including Lil Nas X and Ashley Graham. The designer is part of a rising crop of black fashion designers that are finally earning their due.

Marine Serre
At just 26 years of age, in 2017 Marine Serre scored the coveted LVMH Prize. This also helped her acquire new retail partners, including Dover Street Market and Joyce. After interning for Sarah Burton at Alexander McQueen and Raf Simons at Dior, Serre acquired a junior designer position with Balenciaga under Demna Gvasalia. Serre has found a cult following for her sportswear infused styles.

Avoc
Designers Laura Do and Bastien Laurent were the 2017 winners of the coveted ANDAM Prize for their Avoc label. Their gender-neutral label is on trend for a growing microcosm of gender fluidity fashion.

TRE by Natalie Ratabesi
A nominee for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund, Natalie Ratabesi’s line TRE by Natalie Ratabesi can already be found at Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue. The designer is also finding a growing cohort of editors and stylists who have fallen love with the brand. You can start expecting to see her garments in a lot more fashion editorials and on red carpets.

At 22 years of age, Reese Cooper has accomplished so much. He’s already shown at New York Fashion Week and Paris Men’s Fashion Week, garnering the attention of top editors and stylists. He designs appealing streetwear style garments, and people aren’t shy about trying to get their hands on his clothes.

Charles Jeffrey
This young designer, who graduated from Central Saint Martins in 2017, has found a burgeoning following for his campy, maximalist designs. The designer is known to collaborate with London artists and drag queens for his colorful collections.  Ssense and Farfetch carry his bold designs that have become known for their intricate details.

Phoebe English
Phoebe English completely rejects the concept of fast fashion. Her eponymous brand is made entirely in England in small quantities with very close attention to detail. After graduating from Central Saint Martins, English was awarded the L’Oréal professional prize which helped her jumpstart her career and position her brand as one of British fashion’s most beloved emerging fashion brands.

Matty Bovan
Look out world, here comes the new king of camp. Matty Bovan’s avant garde styles are virtually costume worthy, and he takes maximalism to a whole new level. Since 2016, Bovan has been described as a designer London loves. He loves to make a statement, so expect to keep hearing plenty about him.

Arthur Arbesser
Viennese Arthur Arbesser became a finalist for the LVMH prize in 2015 for his eponymous label, and from 2017 to 2019 he was the creative director of Italian brand Fay. The designer has a penchant for patterns. His playful approach to patterns has been described as beautiful and has earned him rage reviews from top fashion critics.

Kalmanovich
Although fashion designer Julia Kalmanovich started her label back in 2009, only recently that it has found more traction outside of Russia. The designer has found a celebrity following that includes Hailey Bieber, Katy Perry, Chrissy Teigen, Constance Yablonsky, Lena Perminova, Natasha Osmann, Ravshanа Kurkova, and Marusya Zykova.
