The Met Gala 2019

The Met Gala is one of the biggest fashion events of the year. Every year the Met Gala is based on the exhibit on display in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.The brainchild of Eleanor Lambert, who started New York Fashion Week and the CFDA, the Met Gala was initially an annual fundraiser the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. In 1948 the price of a ticket to the Met Gala was $50 with tickets to the new exhibit and a midnight dinner.

Under the auspices of the late, great Diana Vreeland the Met Gala became one of the biggest social events of the season and is also one of the biggest fundraising events. Contributions and ticket sales have no reached an excess of $200 million.

Since 1995, American Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour has been the chairman of the Met Gala and getting a ticket to this exclusive event is not only very expensive, but very difficult to obtain. For the 2019 Met Gala, the ticket price is upward of $35,000 with tables going for $200, 000 to $300,000. This year the Met Gala is sponsored by Gucci and Conde Nast.

Correlating to the Costume Institute’s exhibition “Camp: Notes of Fashion,” the 2019 Met Gala proved to be the most outrageous and widely watched Met Gala in the history of the event. The 2019 exhibit is inspired by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay that defines camp as “love of the unnatural: of artifice and exaggeration.” The co-chairs of the 2019 Met Gala was tennis superstar Serena Williams and Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele. And the hosts of the 2019 Met Gala were Lady Gaga and Harry styles.

No one does camp better than Lady Gaga. With four outfit changes in 15 minutes on the red carpet, Lady Gaga opened her costume performance with a voluminous skirt with 25-foot train. Gaga collaborated with fashion designer Brandon Maxwell for her costume performance.

Did Janelle Monae invent modern-day camp? Well, if she didn’t, she should have. Janelle continue her reign as the queen of camp in Christian Siriano.

Nicki Minaj gave a nod, well kind of, to Marie Antoinette in a bedazzled Prabal Gurung pink silk taffeta cocktail dress with long train. 

Jennifer Lopez showed off her fantastic curves in a white sequined flapper like Versace dress.

Gwen Stefani looked the showgirl that is dear to our hearts in Moschino.

Another showgirl at the 2019 Met Gala was Celine Dion in Oscar de la Renta.

Talk about camp!! Supermodel Cara Delevigne is all saucy camp and whimsical fun in Dior Haute Couture.

Ciara turned it out as a bird of another feather in a feathered and sequined green Peter Dundas gown with 70s huge afro coif.

Cardi B may have given Lady Gaga a run for her money with her look. Thom Browne’s maroon costume enveloped Cardi B and she needed a lot of help getting down the red carpet. Hmm, doesn’t she look like the caterpillar in “Alice in Wonderland”?

No one lit up the 2019 Met Gala red carpet better than Zendaya. She conjured up a Disney Cinderella in a Tommy Hilfiger dress that actually changed color as the gown dramatically lit up, changing to Cinderella at-the-ball blue. You work girl!!

Is this the chandelier from Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast”? No, its Katy Perry in Moschino.

No one makes camp look sexier than supermodel Kendall Jenner is an orange feathered Versace concoction.

The King of Camp, Jeremy Scott, turned it out on the red carpet. Jeremy is accompanied with his muse that night Bella Hadid. Both are attired in Moschino.

Conjuring up Cher, Emily Ratajkowski stuns in Peter Dundas.

And last, but not least, Queen Nefertiti has arrived. That’s right “Pose’s” Billy Porter made a quite a statement in The Blonds while carried on the shoulders of six muscle men.Staff
