If you’ve never thought of Minnie Mouse as a fashion plate, then you might better rethink that impression of Miss Minnie. In collaboration with Refinery 29, Disney will preview their installation Minnie Rocks the Dots on National Polka Dot Day with a red carpet event in Los Angeles on January 22.
The interactive art and fashion exhibit traces Minnie Mouse influence on pop culture and fashion from her creation by Walt Disney in 1928 through the present. The exhibit will also feature dresses worn by Minnie Mouse in different countries.
According to fashionmag.com, Christian Siriano has been pegged to give Minnie her fashion-forward ensemble. “I drew inspiration from Minnie Mouse’s ability to light up a room and designed a dress for her that is happy, playful and what I like to call ‘downtown chic.’ I also infused some special touches to celebrate her classic polka dots,” explained Siriano.
Cindy, Claudia, and Naomi
Finally, a brand that understands what the supermodels of the 1980s and 90s brought to the fashion industry!! At 45, 49, and 45, respectively, Naomi Campbell Cindy Crawford, and Claudia Schiffer rock Balmain’s spring 2016 campaign.
Recently, released on Balmain’s Instagram account by Balmain’s artistic director Olivier Rousteing , the supermodel triumvirate was photographed in minimalistic bodycon with fringe and crisscross details in black and white images by the famed Steven Klein. All hail the power of the 80s and 90s Glamazons!!
Slashes at Allure
There are more layoffs at the embattled Conde Nast glossies. Thirteen print and online staffers have been layoff at Allure magazine including longtime Creative Director Paul Cavaoco.
This new round of layoffs is now becoming part of a pattern at Conde Nast with Details completely shutting down and GQ and Self magazines laying off a significant number of staffers in November. Surprisingly, this announcement of layoffs at Allure comes on the back of new postings for job openings at Conde Nast.
Bye, bye Andre
The fashion world mourns the loss of French fashion designer, Andre Courreges. Courreges died at the age of 92 after a 30-year battle with Parkinson’s disease. Courreges had stopped working at his famed design house in the 1990s.
Some fashion historians credit Courreges with inventing the mini skirt in the 1960s. He is best known for popularizing formal trousers for women and using heavy fabrics such as gabardine in and bold color. His miniskirts were among the shortest in the 60s.
“Courreges clothes are so beautiful, everyone should look the same, dressed in silver. Silver merges into everything, costumes should be worn during the day with lots of make-up,” Andy Warhol once said.
