Amazon Prime, Amazon’s television network, has snapped up “The Fashion Fund.” “The Fashion Fund,” previously seen on the Ovation channel ,details finalists competing for the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize worth $400,000. Past winners of the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund prize have been Public School, Proenza Schouler, and Thom Browne.
The 10-episode series will air in November weekly just before the winner is announced. Amazon will also dedicate a section of its Amazon Fashion site to the finalists, letting customers purchase from their spring/summer 2016 collections.
Rick Owens doubles up in Paris
Leave it to Rick Owens to create a spectacle during Paris Fashion Week. The enfant terrible of the fashion industry—Jeremy Scott once owned that title but has moved on to a more slightly subdued design aesthetic—created a sensation during Paris Fashion Week by having models come out in twos.
A model on the runway in coupled twosomes isn’t new runway choreography. However, Rick Owens’ version of coupling is acrobats and gymnasts literally cradling, supporting, and carrying the models in a variety of positions.
This doubling up of limbs or “women carrying women,” as Owens called it, was a disturbing introduction to Owens’s spring 2016 collection. However, after the initial shock of this spectacle, the audience at the Palais de Tokyo could settle down to Owens’ usual parade of outré silhouettes and design construction.
Luxury layoffs
Escada, the Munich-based luxury brand, plans to cut 200 jobs in an effort to remain competitive. Most of the layoffs will be at its Ascheim headquarters near Munich. In recent months Escada has seen a major downturn in sales in China and Russia.
Though Escada had been at the top on the heap of luxury brands a decade ago, in 2009 the once sought-after brand filed for bankruptcy. Indian businesswoman Megha Mittel later acquired the struggling brand. Glen McMahon stepped down as chief executive in August after only seven months on the job. He was replaced by interim CEO Jorg Wahlers.
